How Podcasts Are Changing Comedy
A neat argument from Dan Brooks in the New Yorker: comedy has drifted from nineties sketch shows, through the Apatow improv years, to the chat podcast, and each form rewards a different way of being funny. Podcasts favour charm and tone over wit, so being a good hang now pays better than writing jokes. As someone who co-presented a football podcast, and may or may not be seeking some sort of return to the medium, I’m choosing to read this as career advice.
