A Great Festive Song

A terrific, lesser-known Christmas song which, due to its lack of bouncy singalong chorus, seldom gets an airing on the rare occasions I’m in charge of festive music, is Ed Harcourt’s rendition of ‘In The Bleak Midwinter’:

witness in all its 360p glory

Low, slow vocals with loud guitars recorded under ten feet of snow, it’s a treat. I discovered this on a winter 2004 Mojo compilation CD, “Blue Christmas”.

“Faith, Hope… And Seasonal Misery”

I miss the 90s/00s era of print magazines with cover-mounted CDs. I discovered several sleighs’ worth of music that way—certainly more than from streaming service playlists, which probably speaks to a shift in my listening habits as much as anything else. Death to Spotify!
